Mark Barnett was the dominant AMA 125cc motocross racer of the early 1980s. "The Bomber" won three AMA 125cc National Motocross Championships from 1980 to 1982 and proved his versatility by winning the AMA Supercross Series in 1981. When he retired from racing in 1985, he was the all-time win leader in AMA 125cc Motocross history with 25 national wins in the class and was second to Bob Hannah on the all-time AMA Supercross wins list with 17 stadium victories. In addition to his four AMA championships, Barnett also had success on the international stage as a member of the winning 1983 Team U.S.A. Motocross and Trophee des Nations squad. He twice won the 125cc U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross. During his nine-year professional racing career, Barnett won a total of 43 AMA national events, taking victories in AMA 125cc motocross, AMA Supercross and Trans-AMA. His 25 career wins in AMA 125 motocross would be the record until Ricky Carmichael moved back down to the 125 class after clinching the 250 championship and earned his 26th win in 2001. His riding style was one of the most aggressive of the era, earning him his nickname of "The Bomber." He was also known for his incredible cornering speed, said to be the best of any rider from the 1980s. After retiring from racing, Barnett honed his skills as a track builder and became one of the leading motocross and supercross track designers and builders in the country. He built many of the private practice tracks for the factory riders of the early 2000s. He continued to live on his family ranch in Alabama. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2002 Racer X Illustrated ranked Barnett sixth on its "25 All-Time Best American Motocross Riders." |

| Note From Dairyland Staff: If you have not had a chance to ride at Dairyland MX, this is the closest thing around to a National's Track. Several riders have said that this is the best track they've ridden and is the closest thing to a Nationals Track in Louisiana. If you want to take yourself to the next level, use the facilities that will take you there. Great training facility. For those of you that are concerned about the track not being user friendly for the Beginners and Novice, there is nothing to be concerned with. The obstacles are big, but they are forgiving - table tops & step ups, ten commandments and even the doubles, triples, and the whoops are easy (The SSR Riders are here all the time doing it all). From beginner to Pro, we are user friendly! Parking is no problem! We have a 30 acre parking area, some parking under the trees. There is a Pit Bike area and a field to test or play with your bikes. We aim to please! We are in the process of resurfacing all the straights and corners and have re-surfaced the obstacles. Our sprinkler system and water trailer create a nice tacky feel. This is our standard operating procedure at DLMX. We have created a sectioned off infield, created a tower on the infield for premium picture taking. Our next project is to erect the 35 foot high grandstands to get spectators up high to see the whole track. We notice that none of the AMA Nationals have this but we will sometime in the near future. Hook-ups, bathrooms with showers, bike wash areas are all on our future list. None of this is possible without the support of the motocross community. We hope you will come support us so we can get closer to completing our dream, a place created for the rider. Once we complete all the plans we have for our facility, there won't be a better venue around - you can bet on it. |
